The artist

Every line drawn by hand, one pencil at a time.

I think I've always been an artist — I've been “arty farty” all my life, I just didn't always have a pencil in my hand. At about ten years old, a little cartoon rabbit proved I could draw. My high school art teacher recognised my natural eye for realism and depth. Then life took over and the pencils were put aside, though creativity kept finding its way out through many other forms. When my children flew the coop, so did I — and I found my way back to drawing. Animals have always been a big part of my life, which makes them a natural focus for my art. For me, drawing is my happy place — where I can keep learning, improving, and simply being me.

My work is coloured pencil realism — layer upon layer of pigment built up slowly until the fur, the whiskers and, most importantly, the eyes feel alive.
